Too Much Lime? Use of enough lime on home vegetable gardens to bring the pH in the 6.0 to 6.5 range is essential for good healthy vegetable production. Once this pH is reached on a clay soil, it will remain in this slightly acid stage from four to six years without the use of more lime. Evidently some gardeners continue to top dress with lime year after year as we have been receiving vegetable garden soil test results with pH ranging from 7.5 to above 8. Caution: - too much lime can be as detrimental to the growth of some vegetables as too little.
Suggest you ' take a good representative soil test from your garden before applying more lime next spring.
