become a janitor, you know, washing windows, emptying trash cans, that kind of stuff.”
But King did not want to be a janitor. He wanted to be a mechanic.
After spending three months in physical therapy and job training at the rehabilitation center. King came home “one Friday and decided to go back to work on Monday.
“I had always tried to be a mechanic. I owned all my own tools,” he says. ‘‘I wanted to be a mechanic again. It’s what I know how to do.”
But when King first returned to his job at Country Chevrolet, his spirit was a little more willing than his body was.
“1 was awfully weak; I couldn’t even lift a tire,” he says. “1 couldn’t remember a lot of things, either. I had forgotten what a set of points was.”
