—Rappahannock News Photo/Daphne Hutchinson REQUEENING THE HIVE—County beekeepers John Mears (left) and Maurice Herndon (second from left) were among the veiled spectators at Raymond Johnson s on Saturday who watched VPI entomologist demonstrate how to add a new queen to a hive. The old queen must first be killed. Then the new queen is placed above a layer of newspapers at the top of the hive. By the time the workers eat through the paper, the queen has absorbed the hive scent and so is accepted.
