Shenandoah National Park continue to show a decrease. During August, 1978, 291,300 travelers went through the park.

In August, 1979, the figure dropped to 223,600—a decrease of 23 per cent. Visits for Calendar Year 1979 compared with Calendar Year 1978 also show a decline of 23 per cent.

Overnight stays in the park totalled 104.901 in August, 1978, compared to 94,793 overnight stays for the same month this year.

Statistics from the Big Meadows Weather Station show the maximum temperature for August reached 82 degrees and the minimum 39 degrees. Precipitation for the month amounted to 8.01 inches.
