Voluntary Zoning

Under the AFD Act, landowners may petition local government for approval of a district. A district must contain at least 500 acres, lying contiguously so that a single, closed exterior perimeter line is created. A district, however. may surround land that is not included in the application in a ‘‘swiss cheese” effect. Parcels that lie within one mile of the district’s outer boundary line may also be included in the application.
