We applaud the decision made by the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors to get tough with violators of the county’s trash ordinances. It s about time that steps were taken to stop wasting money spent cleaning up after slobs who toss their garbage on the ground around the dumpster sites. Last year, off-the-ground-clean-up cost county taxpayers thousands of dollars and still, the dumpster sites were a disgrace.
We think it ’s high time Sheriff W . A. Buntin and his deputies were authorized to patrol the dumpsters for violations. The supervisors, however, needed to do their homework before they turn the Sheriff’s Department lose.
For over a year, the board members have been talking about posting signs at the dumpster sites, advising county residents and visitors alike of Rappahannock’s trash laws. So far. the project hasn’t progressed any further than talk.
