According to Chap Barnes, 13 Virginia counties have approved ag districts to date with a total of 35,000 acres. He noted than ten other counties are currently processing district application.
“We were lucky,” reported Carl Westfelt in relating efforts to establish Rockland, the state’s first district. “We had the board of supervisors, the planning commission, the advisory council, and the newspapers in favor” in addition to a dedicated group of farmers, he he said.
