machinery and livestock are available to bonafide farmers only. In order to qualify, an individual must be engaged in a farming operation, including truck farming, raising livestock or crops or orchard production.
FmHA major adjustment loans at nine percent and operating loans at 9 Vi percent are also available to farmers to cover reorganization of farm production.
In order to qualify for an FmHA loan, however, an individual must be unable to obtain sufficient credit elsewhere to finance actual needs. “If they can get financing anywhere else, I can’t help them,” Allen explained. The same qualification applies to homeowners seeking rural area disaster loans. Allen added that the housing funds won’t become available until after October 1.
Allen was at the Clerk’s Office last Friday to take applications for FmHA loans. As only one individual applied, Allen does not plan on scheduling another visit in the county unless a prior appointment is arranged.
