merit torm to the federal energy office in Pennsylvania in response to the supervisors’ authorization two months ago of underground gasoline storage tank installation. Buntin said that energy office representatives had informed him that the allocation request was not a problem for them to handle since the volumn—1,000 gallons of gasoline—was too
low. The Sheriff said he then contacted L. I. Waters in Culpeper and was told that company would be glad to supply gasoline to the Rappahannock Sheriffs Department “when they had it."
“You can contact the energy board in Richmond," suggested supervisor Clarence Baldwin. “They will assign you a supplier and give him an extra allocation.”
Buntin responded that his attempts to secure a gas allotment for the Sheriffs Department illustrated government’s problem of "the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing...We called Richmond first. They sent us the form to send to Pennsylvania,” he explained,, adding that he would try the state energy office one more time for help in locating a gasoline supplier.
In another matter related to law enforcement, the supervisors approved expenditure of $221 to supplement a grant from Law Enforcement Assistance Administration (LEAA) awarded last year for two new police radios and conversion of the department’s three old radios to new channels.
The board also approved relocation of the Woodville polling site to the Mount Lebanon Church Sunday School room. Rental costs paid by the county for use of the space will be $100.
