After more than two years of temporary officers in charge in Amissville the postal service has appointed a permanent postmaster to this Range 3 office. Mrs. Jacquelynn Estes of Estes assumed her duties there last week.
A native of Falls Church and graduate of Falls Church High School, she attended George Washington University for two and a half years. She has been enfployed with the postal system in Falls Church for about four years, first as a route carrier and then in a supervisory position in the carriers section. She was formerly Jacquelynn Derrow.
“I have never actually been a postal clerk or worked at the window, but I have dealt with the paperwork and the problems. In the Falls Church office there was just more of it (paperwork) and the problems were larger,” Estes said.
“Today I’ve been on my own since 10 o'clock. Being new I find myself double checking the weight and postage on packages and the people are being patient with me while I figure and refigure to be sure,” she continued. “It will take a while until I get used to it.”
“Though I’ve been in the area off and on since the late 60’s, 1 don’t know many people,” she said. “In the summer I sometimes came to Amissville and worked with horses 6n the V. M. Johnson farm, and while here met by husband, Adolph Estes. We were married four years ago, February 14."
