The Panthers lost a well played game against the Montevideo Maroons by just two points at home on Tuesday, January 29.
Gary Leake put RCHS ahead 3-2 with a basket and foul shot in the opening minutes and the Panthers maintained their one point advantage to lead at the close of the first period, 19-18.
But poor defense and hurried shots dropped Rappahannock behind in the second. Playing their best of the season, Montevideo took full advantage of the Panthers’ lapse and shot 90 per cent from the floor. Rappahannock’s squad managed only 48 per cent and trailed 41-34 at the end of the first half.
Things didn't get much better in the third quarter with the Panthers still shooting poorly and lagging on defense. The point difi ference stayed at seven and the Panthers stayed behind, 61-54.
