Even though a snowflake looks as light as a feather, it isn’t. And the wetter the snow, the heavier it is. A full shovel of new snow can weigh as much or more than a scoop of coal.
Shoveling snow is usually an unscheduled exertion and improper dress compounds the problem. Some people wear too little, knowing that their bodies will heat up from the work. Then they run the risk of becoming chilled and inviting trouble as their tiring bodies must struggle to complete the snow-clearing job. Others overdress and add unnecessarily to the weight their bodies must lift with each stroke of the shovel.
Snow shoveling can be beneficial if you’re in reasonably good health. The fresh air and exercise, probably paced, are good for you. But before the first flakes fly, the overweight and out-of-shape individual who gets little exercise needs his doctor’s approval to join in the annual snow rites—or he needs to recruit some healthy neighborhood teenagers to take over the shoveling chores.

F & M National Corporation, a Winchester based bank holding company, with branch facilities in Flint Hill, recorded fourth quarter income of S628.000 or 45 cents per share, a 15.6 per cent increase over the fourth quarter net income of $543,000 or 39 cents per share, recorded for 1978.
Net income for the year was $2,116,000 or $1.51 per share after adjustments, a 10.6 per cent increase over the previous year’s figures of $1,913,000 or $1.37 per share.
Deposits as of December 31 totaled $166,000,000 a 4.7 per cent increase from $159,000,000 a year earlier. Net loans were up 7.1 per cent from $114,000,000 in 1978 to $122,000,000 at year end. Total assets were $188,000,000 a 4.4 per cent increase over the $180,000,000 during the same period.
