"For the past four years I have been commuting to Falls Church, carpooling with some folks from below Warrenton”, continued Estes. “It’s so nice not to have to make that trip daily and I’ll have time, 1 hope, to pursue my hobby with the horses.”
According to Mrs. Estes, she applied for the Amissville post office position when it first became open after David Yokum was transferred away. No action was taken and last July the position was readvertised. She again applied but didn't hear anything until about the day before they called her and told her to be in Amissville the following day.
“1 like it here and the people are nice—friendly and less hurried than in the area closer to the city,”, she said. “I’ve known Red Payne, one of the rural carriers here, for about ten years," Estes was pleased that the office personnel, Virginia Sheele and Eleanor Atkins, in addition to rural route carriers Elmer Jenkins and Payne, had been so helpful.
Mr. and Mrs. Estes reside in Amissville and he works at Estes where is part farmer and part mechanic. They have cows, horses and colts on their property which adjoins his home place. The village was named for his ancestors, but it no longer has a post office.
