Montevideo ahead. 10-4. Carl Frye’s lay-ups brought the RCHS JV back in the second quarter. But the Panthers held the lead only briefly before Montevideo moved back in front to end the first half, 1814.
Rappahannock started the third quarter with four more turn-overs, allowing Montevideo to extend the advantage to 24-14. The Panthers settled down and a shot at the buzzer by Rory Williams cut the margin to four, 26-30.
Rappahannock began the final period with determination. Frye pulled the Panthers to within two and superior defensive play held the Maroons scoreless for three and a half minutes. But the Panthers slipped into foul trouble and Montevideo drew away to win, 42-33.
The Panthers connected on only one free throw during the entire game and gave the ball away 22 times on turnovers. In one of the few bright spots of the contest for the Junior Panthers, Frye controlled the boards with seven rebounds and was high man for the game with 18 points.
