It looks as if the sales tax on gasoline has been shot down. We are having a joint meeting tomorrow of the Senate and House Finance Committee with the Governor on a different plan. It is my understanding he wants to increase the current nine cents tax per gallon to thirteen cents. He may or may not get the full four cents increase.
Some talk in the inner workings of a two or three cent increase with an exemption of the increase on gasohol. I favor the latter plan as it will help our grain farmers. The trouble is no one has been able to give a satisfactory answer on the actual amount the Highway Department really needs. I
