The Panthers broke a six game losing streak last Friday, beating the Elkton Elks. 62-57.
Rappahannock's varsity spent most of the game playing catch-up basketball. Training 12-8 in the opening period and 25-20 in the second quarter, the Panthers edged up on the lead slowly, helped by strong defense and 50 rebounds. At the end of regulation play. RCHS had the score tied 53 all.
In overtime, the Panthers showed that extra spark and held the Elks to only two baskets. Center Gary Leake was back in form and assured the win with seven points in the overtime period. Greg Bright iced it over with a basket to move the Panthers up by nine at the final buzzer. 62-57.
Leake was high for Rappahannock with 24 points and 16 rebounds.
