“Every month that we use less gasoline, we’re relaxing our dependence on imported oil. It’s that cost of imports that feeds our inflation,” said George L. Jones. Coordinator, OEES.
Virginia is voluntarily monitoring gasoline consumption. using figures set by the federal government as guidelines.
Congress’s response to last year’s gasoline shortage, the Emergency and Energy Conservation Act of 1979, authorizes the USDOE to establish monthly consumption figures for each state. In the event of a nationwide fuel shortage, elements of the EECA plan could be made mandatory, and Virginia would be required to comply with the federal target figures.
