According to statistics released by the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission, retail sales in the county continue to expand.
In Rappahannock, the number of retail dealers increased from 131 in 1974 to 150 in 1979 with taxable sales explanding from $4,526,821 to $6,450,553. This accounted for a six-year rate of change of 42.50 per cent. Total sales as a percent of income increased at a steady1 rate over the six-year period ranging from 15.79 per cent in 1974 to 19.18 per cent in 1979.
