If you haven't found gold yet, the Department of Conservation and Economic Development's Division of Mineral Resources has a new booklet that may help.” Gold in Virginia,” by Palmer C. Sweet, is an inventory of 245 gold mines and prospects in Virginia.
Printed as Publication 19, the booklet is the result of four years of research. Sweet, who oversees the economic geological research of the Division, states that, "This publication will answer the needs of many amateur prospectors now aimlessly wandering the Virginia countryside.” The booklet includes observations made by the author as he visited individual mines, and
