I he Artist Series at Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music in Winchester opens October 2 with Lionel Hampton, sometimes called the “Vibes President of the United States.” Hampton will apear at Armstrong Auditorium at 8 p.m.
Originally a drummer, Hampton first played the Vibraphone in 1930 as a back-up to Louis Armstrong. A few years later Hampton' was part of Benny Good-, man's band and then one of| the Benny Goodman quartet with Goodman on clarinet, Hampton playing the vibes, Teddy Wilson on piano and Gene Krupa on drums. Their female singer was Peggy Lee.
Shenandoah’s Artist Series fcinnualy brings big name performers or groups to the community. On November 6 the Series will present The New Globe Theatre performing Shakespeare's "As You Like It.” The Pocono Boy Singers of Pennsylvania will perform in March and the Connecticut Dance Theatre is scheduled for April.
