Numbers Down

At Cattle Sale

Area cattle producers consigned considerably fewer than the expected number of calves and yearlings to the first fall Page, Rappahannock and Warren Sale held Tuesday afternoon, September 16. Less than 300 head of cattle were available for buyers from Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

The 291 head sold brought a total of $127,461.54 for $438.01 per head, with 229 steers averaging $463.72. The top selling pen was a group of six medium frame Charolais steers weighing 650 pounds and selling for $80 per hundred.

Nomination forms have been mailed to previous consigners for the fall’s second sale to be October 14. Area producers who wish to consign cattle and who have not received a nomination form should call Front Royal Livestock Sales at 635-5511 or 636-6774 or contact sale managers Wayne Freeze or William Staples.
