Downward trends in both motor fuel consumption and new car sales were reflected in the first decline in revenues for the Division of Motor Vehicles in over 30 years.
According to Vern L. Hill, DMV commissioner, total net revenue collections for the 1979-80 fiscal year were $457 million, down $21.8 million or 4.6 percent compared to the previous fiscal year.
Fuels tax collections, which account for over half of DMV’s total revenues, were $270 million, a decrease of 4.4 percent over the one-year period.
