Citing hot dry summer weather and soaring recreational energy costs. Ben H. Bolen, Commissioner of Parks, says the overall 1980 summer attendance at Virginia State Parks rose by more than 350.000 compared to the same period the previous year.
Also more people visited the Parks over the four-day Labor Day weekend than in 1979. “Increased visitation at some parks by guests from neighboring states also contributed to the rise," said Bolen.
