Millwood
Millwood, circa 1839, ranks high with any of the restored early American homes in Virginia. Every detail of the extensive restoration and reconstruction was carefully and lovingly researched by Jon Morgan or copied exactly from the old wood work discovered during four years of rebuilding.
Floors are original random-width boards polished to a high sheen which reflects the soft Colonial colors of the woodwork and paneling. Furnishings are primarily early American antiques, many of which have also been restored by the owner.
An adjoining building houses Morgan’s collection of antique automobiles. Near the main house is an old log cabin, again restored by Morgan, which serves as the dressing area for the ultramodern blue tile swimming pool, an addition that gives Millwood a touch of modem countryiife in the 1980’s.
On both tour days, tea will be served at Millwood from 2 until 5 p.m. P
Trinity Church
Trinity Episcopal Church, site of the house tour’s dried flower sale, was built in 1857 by James Leake Powers who served his apprenticeship
