And while she wants Washington to keep its “quaint nature” and remain “the nice rural town it is,” she sees a sewer system lying somewhere in the near future.

“Ten years before 1950, if you had said Washington would have an all-woman government, nobody would have believ.ed you. It’s the same with saying now that we’ll need a sewer system of some kind. Nobody believes it but that day will come too,” she maintained.

Dorothy jokingly added that she'd be ready to resign from the council on the day the town’s sewer problems are resolved. “No," she added in a more serious vein. “I’ll probably keep on running as long as I can be of help. I think we’re obligated to serve in our communities as long as we’re able to get things accomplished.”
