The school board needs someone knowledgeable on educational issues, up to date on recent General Assembly mandates and with first-hand awareness of the special problems existing in Rappahannock schools as its tie-breaker. We propose that former teacher and elementary school principal Mary Botts Quaintance be named. She has attended every regular session and most special meetings of the school board for at least the past six years. She's certainly knowledgeable and, more importantly, concerned about Rappahannock’s public school system and the county’s chifdren. If she will accept, there’s no one any better suited for the job.
The requirement for a tie breaker takes effect a few days before the supervisors’ monthly meeting in October. We suggest they act promptly on this state mandate and appoint Mary Botts Quaintance as school board tie-breaker.
