Future of the Sods
The successional processes have been slow on the Dolly Sods. Even so, the idea of vast and beautiful spruce forests, approaching maturity within the next half-century, is tenable. There is, however, the threat of even greater disturbances than fire, the effects of which would be even more permanent and devastating. These dangers are brought on by the same assets, the very richness, that make the Dolly Sods so unique and valuable.
