Powell Harrison, Jr., Chairman of the Board of the Piedmont Environmental Council, announced today that the Board of Directors of the PEC has pledged its resources toward determining measures which will help the farming community in the nine-county region served by PEC to weather its current economic plight.
“To put it simply,” said Harrison, “we want the farmer to be able to make a profit, and we want to make the public aware of the whole farm problem.”
Although much of Virginia has become urbanized, farming is still Virginia’s major industry, and nationally, the one item of foreign trade which helps toward maintaining a favorable balance of trade for the United States.
