“At an auction, you get caught up in the frenzy of bidding and you have to make up your mind instantaneously. I’ve seen absolute junk go for outstanding prices to unknowledgeable bidders. At a dealer’s, you have all the time in the world to look over a piece. Some of my best buys — financially and quality-wise—have been from dealers.”
