Gales
Funeral services for William Mell Gales of Culpeper were conducted Saturday at the Bethel Baptist Church in Amissville by the Rev. Carter Alsberry. Burial was in the family section of the church cemetery.
Mr. Gales, 73, a native of Rappahannock County, died Wednesday, October 8, 1980, at Culpeper Memorial Hospital. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie B. Tyler Gales of Culpeper; four sons, William Gales Jr., of Washington, D. C., Newton Gales and John Gales, both of Maryland and Shirley Gales of Culpeper; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Williams of Bergen, N. Y., Mrs. Lillie Scurlock and Annie Gales, both of Washington, D. C.; one brother, Charles Washington of Rochester, N. Y. and six sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Hill, Mrs. Emma Simms and Mrs. Laura Major, all of Caledonia, N. Y.. Mrs. Lucille Minor of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Martha Thornton of Rochester, N. Y. and Mrs. Mary Bailey of Virginia. He also leaves 18 grandchildren and 22 greatgrandchildren.
