The Rappahannock Knights were the first team to be eliminated from the holiday tournament they hosted at RCHS this week.
On Monday evening, the local boys lost to Madison, 51-47, and to Front Royal, 53-50, after leading, 27-20. at the half.
In a double elimination tournament, that should have knocked the Knights out of competition. But one of the undefeated teams from Monday failed to show up for Tuesday's opening game. Winners by forfeit, the Madison squad still wanted to play and the fans who showed up for the 6 p.m. content wanted to see action so the Knights were elected to fill the breach.
The Rappahannock contingent drew first blood on a basket by Chico Veeny and then jumped to a 10-5 lead on two technical fouls called against Madison. With four minutes left in the first point, Madison cut the difference to one, 15-16, and moved a point in front, 2120, with a little over a minute on the clock.
