For years the only way you could get a telephone was to lease one from the telephone company But under the new FCC guidelines, after January 1,1983, we will not be required to lease telephones and other equipment to new one-party customers.
So, now when you need a new phone, you will have to buy it like you would any small appliance.
One-party customers who now lease phones from us will still be able to lease their phones until they move. Although party-line customers are initially unaffected by the new FCC guidelines, we expect they, too, will become subject to the new rules in the near future.
