This Saturday is the first day of a new year—traditionally a time of hope and promise. Throughout Rappahannock, people will be making resolutions, setting old-year business straight, renewing acquaintances and expressing appreciation for new friends.
In this county, the new year has a special meaning. One hundred and fifty years ago the county was formed with the boundaries we know today. We can only speculate about the public reaction at the time. Perhaps it was a controversial move, with complaints from county folks objecting to the change—perhaps it made little difference to the hardworking mountain and hill people. This anniversary, properly named the scsquicentennial, calls for some observance.
With this in mind, we have planned a series of monthly articles on local history. It is our hope that any Rappahannock people with stories to tell or pictures from the past will help us.
The library has agreed to schedule a series of story-telling sessions on these subjects, which we will use as a starting-point for further interviews. Please call us or come by the News office if you have anything—no matter how small—to add to our knowledge of
