Howdy and Helen have taken rolls and rolls of slides on their trips to foreign countries and put together entertaining and educational slide shows. They've presented their collections at Lions Club meetings, for senior citizens at the county's nutrition site, at local nursing homes and at Rappahannock County Library programs.
There are many people in the county with the time to do volunteer work. Irwin noted. "Howdv and Helen have the inclination as individuals," he added.
Fifteen months ago, Capt. Holschuh took over as editor of the Area Agency on Aging's monthly publication. The Voice of Experience. A volunteer. Holschuh replaced a former paid employee when funding cuts eliminated the position.
"The quality of the paper really improved," reported Sally Morgan, head of the Area Agency. ‘‘All of a sudden, we had feature articles. The style was more interesting. Capt. Holschuh ferreted out so many interesting seniors to interview. And in addition to all the writing, he does all the layout and paste-up."
