The Rappahannock Panthers lost their second basketball game in a row last Friday against coach Doyle Dawson’s alma mater, William Monroe, 46-59.
It was an intense but one-sided contest. The Panthers wer once again plagued by fouls and sent the Dragons of Monroe to the line 34 times. Monroe further added to the Panthers’ dilemma by making good on 21 of those 34 attempts.
Dawson also attributed the loss to the failure of his squad to run plays properly or listen to the coach’s instructions. They will win when those problems are corrected, he said. “But it was the fouls that really lost the game. We took as many free throws as they made,” the coach added. “The game would have been close but for the free throws. They only made one more field goal than we did.”
