RCHS hopes were squelched when key forward Clarence Pendleton picked up his fourth foul after being tagged and with three in the first two minutes of the third quarter.
The Panthers tried to make up too much too soon, forcing poor shots and committing careless turnovers. The Dragons stretched the difference to 49-34 before both coaches cleared their benches with just a few minutes left. Then came one of Rappahannock’s only bright spots of the night. The Panther bench scored four unanswered points and The Dragons’ starting five came back on the court and still the RCHS subs managed to cut the lead to 13 at the buzzer, leading the tally at 59-46.
Tommy Jenkins led the Panthers’ scoring with 13 points followed by Porter with 12 and Mike DelGrosso with eight.
