It looked as though the Panthers still had a chance. However, William Monroe had an opportunity to stage a dramatic come back. The Dragons made only six points in the period. But the Panthers could not capitalize. Instand, they did just the opposite, falling further behind and scoring only an embarrassing four points themselves. They repeated their opening game third quarter jinx, going scoreless for five long minutes. They finally found the basket with one minute left but then allowed the Dragons’ top scorer, Mike Shiflett, to slip open with 45 seconds to go to erase the effort. The ouarter ended with William Monroe at 37 and Rappahannock at 28.
The Dragons then blew the game wide open, starting the fourth period with an “alley-oop” to Shiflett who went on to score eight more points to hit his game high of 19. Monroe continued to wear down Rapp’s defense
