Guided Tour

About 20 adults who arrived for the start of last week’s open house were impressed with the high school’s computer lab. The math wing was the first stop on a building tour conducted by Chappell. Teacher Donald Bomberger showed the visitors how the computers had been programmed for lesson plans ranging from music history for the mixed chorus to complex mathmatical equations.

The parents enjoyed testing their skills against the computer/teacher and as often as not were chided electronically for giving the wrong responses.

The group also visited the business department where Chappell spoke briefly on various typing classes offered.

The last stop was the biology room where he pointed out microscopes that were donated by the Boosters club last year.

Public Preview

The citizens then gathered in the gym for a viewing of the movie “Running My Way”. The film, which deals with teen decisionmaking, was a joint purchase of the five area county’s welfare departments, according to family life educator Mary Wilkins w ho discussed the film with those in attendance after the screening.

Wilkins took the film to Chappell last summer, he told the audience. After seeing it, he and assistant principal John Toth took it to school superintendent Robert Estabrook with the request that it be used in the schools.

The School Board w'atched the film on October 11 and subsequently approved its use in grades 8-12 with parental permission and providing the classes are segregated by sex.

Wilkins said that because of heavy scheduling in other schools, it would probably be late spring before she can show the movie to Rappahannock students, but that next year she would anticipate starting it earlier in the year here.
