Impressed by the beauty of the county and the friendliness of the people here, she's still chuckling over what was, in essence, the luck of the draw.
At last week’s board meeting, the county supervisors gave unanimous approval to the acceptance of Vickers’ appointment. “I think she’s very qualified and would work very well in the county," said VPI agricultural extension agent Birgitt Thornhill of this nominee.
With three years of teaching and a masters degree in home economics behind her, Vickers obviously has the experience for the half of her job that entails working with the county’s home demonstration clubs.
She has an equally impressive background in 4-H programs which comprise the second half of her responsibilities. Although she doesn’t officially begin her job here until this Friday, she was in the extension office earlier in the week, working on lists of possible volunteers leaders for community 4-H clubs.
