The proposed sewage disposal system ordinance was again the main topic of discussion at the meeting of Washington’s Town Council on Wednesday, October 10.
Some members of the council voiced their concern over the five mile radius provision in the ordinance. The ordinance as proposed would give the council the authority to inspect new septic systems within a five mile radius of the town, or in an area of approximately 80 square miles.
A suggestion was made that a geologist be consulted in order to find out more about aquifers, springs, and soil types so that the council can decide what areas would be danger areas for development. The council would then concentrate its effort in those areas.
“I think that we’ve got to define the area, we’ve got to define it on the map, and be specific on exactly what we’re planning,” said council member NewbiD MiDer.
