School prayer. The candidate said he is against a constitutional amendment that would permit prayer in schools. “It doesn’t make sense to have this constitutional amendment,” he said.
Costello said he supports voluntary prayer in the schools-a moment of silence far all students to do as they wish. “I am not for the state writing the prayer for my child,” Costello said, emphasizing that he was against permitting oral prayer in schools.

Costello alluded to his experience on school boards— four years in Winchester City Schools and four yean in Frederick County Schools, where he currently is a member of the school board.
