I have recently become rather involved in the arduous task of trying to learn and trying to understand the purposes, powers and duties of the various boards and commissions which regulate and govern our county. However, I have reached the conclusion that this is an impossible task. In fact, I’m not quite sure the respective boards and commissions are certain as to their own purposes, powers and duties.
Therefore, I can only hope that these governing and regulating bodies have the good of the people in their minds, and will govern themselves by the will of the people in any future action regarding the adoption of the proposed zoning ordinance.
I, for one, do not believe Rappahannock County needs a zoning ordinance which is a duplicate of Fauquier County’s. We do not compare with Fauquier County. The population of Fauquier is 10 times our population. We do not have any shopping centers, we do not have a hospital, we only have one high school, no junior high school, we only have one elementary school. We have no ABC stores, we have very little industry, ryo 7-1 l’s, no Hardee’s, Wendy’s, Pizza Hut's# McDonald’s or Roy Rogers, chain stores or drug stores. You can count our doctor’s, lawyers and dentists on your fingers. We like it this way and we’ve kept it this way with our present zoning ordinance.
