USPS Promotes Eleanor Atkins

AmiwviUe Postal Clerk Eleanor J. Atkins has been promoted to a higher level postal clerk position at the Warrenton Post Office, AmissviUe Postmaster C.S. Munday announced last week. Mrs. Atkins will assume her new responsibilities on November 24, according to a United States Postal Service (USPS) press release.

“Mrs. Atkins is an outstanding employee who truly deserves this promotion. She will be missed very much,” Postmaster Munday said.

• Pop Quiz Team Wins Opener

R*PP»hannock High’s Pop Quiz team won its season opener against Luray High on November 16, but not without some excitement.

RCHS fell behind in the first period of play, but caught up later in the round for a 216-170 come-from-behind victory.

Three of the four Pop Quiz starters for RCHS are veterans: James Dennis, Will Oliver and Jonathon Watson. The fourth, rookie Dwight Parker, an eighth-grader, won a starting position during a school-wide competition that is a RCHS tradition.

According to Pop Quiz Coach Roger Flincham, Parker held his own during the opener, contributing as many as one-third of the points scared.

Coach Flincham credits a sharp team to tough weekly practice competition from teams comprising faculty and members of the community. The next Pop Quiz round will be played in February/March, Coach Flincham said. Opponents will be chosen on February 7.
