Ethel and her daughter Marie usually do all of the cooking for the family's Thanksgiving Day dinner. The menu traditionally includes one 24pound turkey, me country ham that Ed has cured hingelf, dressing, cranberry sauce, homemade sauerkraut, turnip greens, candied yams, meshed potatoes, rolls, and for desert, pumpkin pie and apple pie.
Preparing for a crowd may be exciting, but it’s certainly not a holiday away from work when it conies to the kitchen. “I’D bake the pise and rolls on Wednesday, put the turkey in the oven around 2 a.m., and get up at 7 a.m. on Thursday,” Ethel mid.
The fondly goes to the morning service at their church after breakfast, end Ethel and Marie get to work on finishing dinner preparations when they get beck from church.
“I have the vegetables already prepared to put on the stove when we get beck, and we finish up dinner and eat around 3 p.m.,” Ethel said. “After dinner, I put n»y foet up and rest"
