About 50 volunteers gathered for the luncheon, and received certificates and thanks from Jeannie McNear, coordinator of volunteer services for Rappahannock. Various program directors, like Lee Nettles from the Mental Health Clinic, also thanked the volunteers for their help.
Barbara Gentry is a RSVP volunteer who serves on the RSVP advisory council for Rappahannock. She is also in charge of the luncheon site for the Area Agency on Aging in Rappahannock which serves lunch to senior citizens three days a week. “I was asked to take charge of the hostesses for a little while at the luncheons which are held at the Episcopal Church,” Gentry said. ‘That was two-and-a-half years ago, and I’ve been doing it ever since.”
Gentry is a retired postmaster and teacher, and she also serves on the Mental Health Advisory Council. She is a member of the Mental Health Association, and helps carry clients to mental health appointments. “I like to work with people,” Gentry said. “I like getting out and mixing with people, and making new friends.”
