Board to initiate condemnation proceedings on the disputed land site, makes me feel this may be another rather shallow attempt to pacify an angry community by merely going through the motions of offering the public “their chance to be heard.”
We have been mislead by the Board before when told to “call off the dogs'” immediately before the Board retreated into their now infamous “special session” on November 5, where they voted 4-0 to condemn the land site anyway. This left no question as to the Boards’ intent to ignore our community voice and proceed with their landfill plans regardless. If the Board of Supervisors chose to ignore us, what reason do we have to believe that they will not choose to ignore the recommendation of the Planning Commission following this hearing?
If this proposed public hearing is a sign that the Board of Supervisors wants to finally cooperate with the people of Rappahannock County by granting them a public forum, who do they not, as a show of faith, halt the filing of the condemnation documents until after the public has voiced their concerns and ideas and the Planning Commission has made their recommendation as to whether the site is in “substantial accord” with Rappahannock’s comprehensive plan?
