We are writing to express our opposition to your recent preliminary decision to condemn 138 acres of land on Route 621 for location of the county landfill, and to respectfully request that you promptly reverse your action.

Within the past year w e purchased the other 75 acres of the Margolis tract adjacent to the proposed site. In addition to the grave harm to us. we are convinced that your decision is w rong for six major reasons:

flsands more to condemn other peo- , pie's land. ijfcJtTfling some of ours, for necessary road improvements. tens of thousands for actually upgrading roads and two bridges to the site: large sums for fencing the site, and on top of all of that, the costs of site preparation. The costs to the county's taxpayers for this site are totally unjustified.

2. The site is in an area t hat apparently has the highest land valuation in the county. A landfill there will result in a sharp decrease in land values. This will not only cost the county considerable revenue that w ill have to be made up from other taxpayers, but it will also cause dozens of families to lose a large portion of their hard-earned investments in their property. Government should not harm its citizens this way.

3. The site is literally in the middle of one of the most populous residential communities in the county. There are a very large number of homes within a very short distance of the site. The dis ruption you will cause the Peyton Farm community and neighboring homes is incaleuable-. from traffic to litter to danger to children The .site is in clear conflict with the historic planning of the county for this area, on which all of us have relied.

4. The roads to the sit*- are among the most dangerous in the county — with hairpin turns, blind corner-, steep hills, winter icing, and other problems. Even a massive road improvement program would not likely solve these problems—and in any event would rob the
