• Ladies’ Auxiliary. Chester Gap’s Ladies’ Auxiliary, in its second year, has been a great source of funds and emotional support, according to Chief Williams. The Ladies Auxiliary conducts bake sales, coordinates kitchen activities year-round at the fire hall and proceeds from their work take care of building upkeep. In addition, they operate a booth at the carnival and sponsor banquets.
The Ladies’ Auxiliary will be instrumental in helping to arrange a community dinner and awards banquet at the fire hall on December 2, Chief Williams said. For the first time in its history, Chester Gap will honor volunteers that day by naming an outstanding firefighter, rescue person and junior firefighter. Volunteers voted by secret ballot for the awards at the department’s last meeting, Chief Williams said.
Still, the most important message people in the community should know about the volunteer fiie and rescue personnel is simple. “If they need us, we’re here. That’s what all the fire companies are for,” Chief Williams said.
