The nomination deadline for the 1985 Governor’s Awards for the Arts in Virginia is Tuesday, February 1, 1985. Any individual, arts organization, public or private organization having made significant contributions to the Arts in the Commonwealth is eligible to be nominated by anyone in the Commonwealth.
The purpose of the Governor’s Awards for the Arts is to recognize excellence in and support of the Arts in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This will include but not be limited to individual artists and producing Arts organizations as well as individuals, organizations and businesses which encourage and support the Arts. Areas of contributions might include architecture, dance, literature, crafts, music, folk arts, arts education, filmmaking, photography, radio, television, theatre, visual arts, museums, multiarts, art services, cultural support programs, community arts projects and preservation.
Criteria on which to base nominations are: for artists, distinction in creative achievements; for Producing and Presenting Arts Organizations, distinguished creative accomplishments which hayp significantly influenced the Arts or general cultural life of Virginia; for individuals, organizations and businesses which encourage and support the Arts, significant support or participation in activities
