A landfill is an environmental hazard no matter where it’s located. It creates a toxic mess that can never be undone. Once in place, it is ours forever. No thanks.
Compare the unsavory permanance of a landfill to the flexibility of incineration. If we use a particular method of incineration that proves inefficient down the line, then we can turn with relative ease to another method. And no scar on our land would be left behind.
As was mentioned in the January 7 meeting of the Supervisors, plans for incineration might well include other counties. A group effort is the right idea. Left to itself, one county may not have adequate resources in time and money to research and implement the best means of waste-disposal. The more brainpower the better. ^
